David A. Shaywitz, MD, PhD

Biomedical innovation, emerging technology, and health.

I’ve spent my career in biomedical innovation focused on realizing the value of emerging molecular and digital technologies in biopharma R&D.

Success requires not only understanding what the technology makes possible and what the science demands, but also—perhaps most critically—developing a feel for the organizational and human factors on which adoption ultimately depends.

More recently, I’ve also started to explore a second question: how technology might be used to cultivate agency and improve health.

Biopharma R&D Drawing on decades in biopharma R&D innovation, I advise tech innovators seeking a deeper understanding of the field — its science, culture, organizational complexity, and distinct challenges.
Agency + health A newer area of my work asks how technology can help people exercise more agency and improve health. This is part of my current work at Lore Health and the focus of my writing at Kindwell.

My career has included leadership roles in biopharma, health technology, and strategic venture investing. I’m currently Chief Medical Scientist at Lore Health, a lecturer at Harvard Medical School, and an adjunct fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.
